Training Camp Summary – Weekend Recap – July 29th and July 30th, 2023

August 2, 2023

Atlanta Falcons

Arizona Cardinals

  • Colt McCoy had a multi-interception performance on Saturday.
  • Kyler Murray currently raving about Michael Wilson: “I was always fond of him before we even drafted him.”
  • Looking more and more like the Cardinals are gonna roll with Keaontay Ingram behind James Conner.
  • Rondale Moore’s route tree under Drew Petzing looks like a huge upgrade for his skill set.

Baltimore Ravens

Buffalo Bills

  • McDermott on Kincaid: “He’s off to a good start. Productive in red zone but still a rookie learning nuances of playbook and getting set with Josh. All those things take time. And there’s the blocking part when the pads go on tomorrow.”
  • Josh Allen found James Cook on a well-executed screen pass.
  • “[James] Cook has been a mainstay on the Bills’ first-team offense through the first four days of practice at St. John Fisher University. He’s flashed on a number of big plays and added another one to the highlight reel on Sunday…Cook’s virtually unguardable in one-on-ones against linebackers and safeties. He has been a consistent presence in the pass game throughout camp, fulfilling the role general manager Brandon Beane foreshadowed when he spoke about selecting Cook in the draft last year.”
  • Dawson Knox and Dalton Kinkaid have lined up in the backfield as the RB, in the backfield as an H/offset fullback, as the #3, plus in shifts and motions to and from condensed/spread looks
  • Dalton Kincaid’s athleticism & fluidity is on display with every rep

Carolina Panthers

Chicago Bears

Cincinnati Bengals

Cleveland Browns

Dallas Cowboys

Denver Broncos

Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers

Houston Texans

Indianapolis Colts

Jacksonville Jaguars

Kansas City Chiefs

Los Angeles Chargers

Los Angeles Rams

Miami Dolphins

  • Erik Ezukanma caught another long TD pass in drills. He looks much better this summer.
  • Raheem Mostert runs a GORGEOUS double move and Tua layers a touch pass to the back pylon for a TD.
  • Devon Achane with a nice touchdown run to the outside, speed was on full display.
  • Braxton Berrios is the leader in the clubhouse for the WR3 spot
  • Omar Kelly (Dolphins Beatwriter) on Tyreek Hill: “Excuse it however you’d like, but Hill’s first week made him look like he’d lost his super powers. Hill, a seven-time Pro Bowler, blended in, and that’s not how a player on a Hall of Fame trajectory is supposed to practice. You can tell he’s either slowed by a nagging injury, or his focus is off because he’s had too many drops.”

New England Patriots

New Orleans Saints

  • 11-on-11 first set: Kamara run, Carr completion to Shaheed with pressure by Cam, Eno Benjamin run with a nice stiff arm play, Shaheed jet sweep – Saint getting creative with the play calling.
  • Rookie QB Jake Haener: “The Saints are legitimately excited about Haener’s developmental potential, and it’s not hard to see why. Whatever Haener may lack in physical gifts, he has no shortage of belief in himself. In limited snaps, he completed five of his six pass attempts during team drills, including a perfect throw in rhythm over the middle of the field to rookie A.T. Perry. He is not the guy who is just looking for the easy dump off completion. Haener has shown a willingness to let it rip”

New York Giants

New York Jets

Philadelphia Eagles

Pittsburgh Steelers

San Francisco 49ers

  • RBs have been notably successful catching the ball out of the backfield early in camp. CMC is a given, but Jordan Mason, Ty Davis-Price and Elijah Mitchell all have chunk catches to their name. All significant because the 49ers can’t afford a big reduction in receiving threat whenever McCaffrey comes off the field. RB adaptability is a mandatory part of the system now.
  • Tyrion Davis-Price getting some first-team reps in walkthroughs.
  • Brandon Aiyuk continues dominating at 49ers camp. He just caught 3 touchdown passes in one red-zone session alone. Aiyuk has been a standout in 49ers Camp.
  • Final QB Stats: Trey Lance: 4/7, 2 TD(1 rush), Sam Darnold: 7/9, 3 TDs Brandon Allen: 3/5, 1 TD
  • Sam Darnold and his WRs were on point. Darnold has arguably been the most consistent QB in Camp so far.
  • Without CMC, Elijah Mitchell and Jordan Mason took most of the first-team reps, but Tyrion Davis-Price also saw first team reps for the first time.
  • Jordan Mason has been struggling with fumbles.
  • Kyle Shanahan on Brock Purdy: “I think he’s done great. He has come back. He’s had no arm troubles. He’s been totally healthy. I think he’s getting all his timing back, his rhythm. I was really impressed with him in his two practices. Brock’s just so detailed and committed in everything he does, so he didn’t miss one day. Every rep that he takes to get better in his health, he is just deliberate in everything he does…”

Seattle Seahawks

  • Kenny McIntosh has looked very quick in camp practices. He’s shown burst and soft hands. He’ll now have plenty of opportunity to showcase his skills with Walker and Charbonnet on the mend.
  • Noah Fant has passed his physical and is off the PUP list
  • Ken Walker (groin) and Zach Charbonnet (shoulder) have been out of practice and will be held out for the foreseeable future.
  • Geno Smith had an up and down day. He threw several touchdowns, but also a couple INTs. JSN, Tyler Lockett, and DK Metcalf all caught Touchdowns from Smith
  • SmithNjigba and (Dee) Eskridge continue to be the stars of camp on offense, with each player making several impressive grabs from (Geno) Smith and Drew Lock in Sunday’s latest camp installment.”
