Day 2 of the Senior Bowl brought more of the same from Day 1 standouts Van Jefferson, KJ Hill, and Collin Johnson. However, it was former Baylor Bear Denzel Mims that truly stood out amongst this loaded senior WR class. Mims has NFL size and athleticism, measuring in at 6’2 ½ at 206 pounds, he possesses long arms and has used that length to great effect, as scouts raved about the size of his catch radius. Mims is more than just an athletic project, with multiple 1000-yard seasons under his belt:
2017 (SOPH): 12 games, 61 catches, 1087 yards, 8 touchdowns
2018: 12 games, 55 catches, 794 yards, 8 touchdowns
2019: 13 games, 66, 1020 yards, 12 touchdowns
Here’s what some of the scouts at the Senior Bowl had to say about his day:
- “Baylor WR Denzel Mims another clear winner of Senior Bowl 1-on-1’s. Works to stack the CB and uses an arm bar to protect the catchpoint. He’s having an impressive week.” And followed up later with “Denzel Mims has been the best wide receiver in Mobile at the Senior Bowl.” – Brad Kelly, Cover 1
- “WR Denzel Mims was fantastic today. Won in variety of different ways during Wednesday’s #SeniorBowl practice. He’s having as good a week as any WR here.” – Trevor Sikkema, The Draft Network
- “Denzel Mims flashed a few times during yesterday’s practice, and with another strong practice today he’s beginning to separate himself in a year that has many talented WRs in the draft.” – Mike Tannenbaum, former Jets GM
- “When you wanna talk about a big, athletic receiver you automatically go to Denzel Mims. Athletic Specimen. He’s a big play machine with a ton of explosiveness to his game. No shock he is standing out in Mobile, he’ll be a Day 2 pick this year.” – Nick Farabaugh, Steelers Depot
- “It really is a good WR group. I like Denzel Mims. Out here making a ton of contested catches, which you absolutely have to do at the next level.” – Stephen Holder, The Athletic
If Mims can continue to build momentum this week, expect his stock to rise exponentially.
But enough about Denzel Mims, who else has impressed on Senior Bowl Day 2?:
QBs
Jordan Love
Mixed reviews again today for Jordan Love:
Tony Pauline – Jordan Love/#UtahSt has made some incredible throws in one-on-one drills
Jordan Reid – Jordan Love got into a very nice rhythm today. Easy thrower of the ball. He has continued to get better throughout the week which is why he’s so intriguing and a sign that his best days may be ahead of him
Jalen Hurts
The Draft Network – Dime TD pass by QB Jalen Hurts > https://twitter.com/DraftNetworkLLC/status/1220105423996510210
RosterWatch – Jalen Hurts was improved in Day 2, but has a ways to go before he’s drafted on Day 2
Shea Patterson
Kyle Meinke (Lions Beat Writer for MLive) – Michigan QB off to a miserable start on Day 2 at the Senior Bowl. He’s missed short, he’s missed long, he’s thrown a couple outright ducks and he just got chewed out for dropping a second snap.
RBs
Lamical Perine
Zach Goodall (SI) – Burst through the hole is what excites scouts about former #gators RB Lamical Perine
Joshua Kelley
Jonah Tuls – It’s difficult for running backs to stand out in an all-star game environment like this, but #UCLA RB Joshua Keley has made quick, explosive cuts each of the first two practices. Has separated himself as the top North RB.
WRs
It was the KJ Hill and Van Jefferson show for most of the day again, with some of the Texas WRs showing well too
KJ Hill
Dan Hope – Defensive backs still struggling to cover KJ Hill on Day 2 of Senior Bowl practice. Even with a slight stumble on this route, he gets open for the catch

Van Jefferson
Dalton Miller – Great finish by Florida’s Van Jefferson here on the extended double catch. Got up and chirped TF outta Darnay Holmes afterwards. Getting chippy a bit

Texas WRs (Devin Duvernay/Collin Johnson)
Dane Brugler – Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay just jumped a few spots in my WR rankings
Brad Kelly – Devin Duvernay has strong, strong hands
Jonah Tuls – Collin Johnson does such a nice job stacking cornerbacks vertically. Has been the best WR on the South team through two practices
TEs
Adam Trautman (Dayton)
Matt Miller – Adam Trautman. Really good.
Daniel Jeremiah – I am a HUGE Adam Trautman fan (Dayton TE). He has a really good feel as a route runner and he’ll more than hold up in the run game.

Stephen Sullivan
AJ Schulte – Stephen Sullivan from LSU is basically a receiver and he’s looked uncoverable in drills
Eric Edholm – LSU WR/TE Stephen Sullivan is going to be an interesting projection. Big slot who glides. Long catch radius. Seems to snatch it naturally.
Tony Pauline – Stephen Sullivan/TE/LSU has looked terrific in all aspects, as a blocker and pass catcher.
