Stay tuned for some interviews we did with a few beat writers! Should be coming in the next few days.
· Tim Kelly on Jordan Thomas and Kahale Warring: ‘Both skilled at catching the football. Really strong hands do a good job of attacking the football. Both have made some big plays in the last couple of days’.
· AJ Green is back at practice.
· Patriot TE Race (through nine practices):
Keene: 13 receptions
Asiasi: 12 receptions
Izzo: 10 receptions
· Patriots WRs through nine practices:
Gunner: 20 receptions
Edelman: 19 receptions
Byrd: 19 receptions
Sanu: 17 receptions
Ross: 11 receptions
Harry: 10 receptions
· Tony Dews said rookie Darrynton Evans has gone above and beyond trying to learn as much as possible. Said he’ll text him at night asking him questions about certain plays.
· “Olszewski and Byrd probably have the current edge for the fourth and fifth spots. It’s not an insurmountable gap, but Meyers has been injured for several days and Ross missed his first practice Tuesday. It’s impossible to make up ground from the training table.”
· “(JK Dobbins) has looked every bit the steal many declared him to be when the Ravens selected him. (He) has looked elusive in team drills but has impressed the most showcasing his receiving skills, delivering multiple highlight-reel catches with linebackers in coverage.”
· WR Devin Duvernay: “[He] has gotten open downfield as much as any wideout this summer. In one-on-one drills, he’s shown a savvy ability to separate from defensive backs, flying past cornerback Marcus Peters for long gains on several occasions.” WR James Proche: “Proche has displayed a knack for getting open, particularly on in-breaking routes over the middle of the field. Proche had one of the most impressive catches of practice, beating two defensive backs to haul in a full-extension, leaping grab.”
· Miles Boykin: “A day after reports emerged that Dez Bryant was being brought in for a workout, Boykin had perhaps his best practice to date with several acrobatic catches. In one-on-one matchups against the defense’s top corners and other team drills, he’s made several plays.”
· Had a scare at Bears camp – rumor was RB David Montgomery was carted off today after a non-contact injury, but he actually left the practice field under his own power, was evaluated and was then carted. Early indicators = groin strain.
· Doug Pederson says Quez Watkins and John Hightower are battling for a spot at WR: “I like where both of them are. It’s an interesting battle as we come down to the last few weeks of camp”
· D’Andre Swift was back at practice
· Sony Michel is back. Don’t count out Sony yet. “I thought Sony looked good today. Not sure what to make of RB situation. Doubt the Patriots give up on Michel without making Damien Harris really earn it.” & “His fresh legs showed – he looked fast – adding another layer at position.” (edited)
· Bryan Edwards should see a decent # of targets if Tyrell Williams can’t go, but don’t sleep on Zay Jones.
· Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams are going to play a lot, The Packers sound like they are developing a legitimate role for Tyler Ervin. A.J. Dillon might be fourth on this team in RB snaps.
· Jets offense was awful today. First three possessions: three-and-out, fumble, interception. In total, the Jets starting offense had 6 possessions, 0 points, and 3 turnovers. (edited)
· Frank Gore has been the best RB in camp per one Jets beatwriter. it has been about a 60-40 split between Bell and Gore in Bell’s favor.
· Jets pulled Le’Veon Bell from practice because he was feeling tight. Bell later disagreed on Twitter. Then went on to Twitter to voice his frustrations.
· Bruce Arians says on Chris Godwin sitting out three practices recently in the last six days: “That’s for me to know and nobody else to find out.”
· Trey Burton had a great day
· La’Mical Perine had his best day despite the Jets offense sputtering, breaking off a 79 yard TD run against the starting D
· Corey Clement is having a fantastic camp … looks strong, fast and assertive as a runner.
· “[Jefferson] picked up where he left off from Saturday’s scrimmage, getting more reps with the first team offense. He made a nice play during the 2-minute drill portion of practice, hauling in a first down catch from Goff inside the 15 after Goff escaped pressure in the pocket.”
· More on Van Jefferson: “The legend of Jefferson grows by the day, it seems. The rookie receiver has stood out in a big way during camp practices, earning reps with the first-team offense. On Wednesday, he had what seemed to be one of his best sessions of camp.”
· One 49ers beat writers prediction: “I’d guess that Trent Taylor would have the most receptions. If Deebo Samuel plays during September, and I think he does, he’s your answer [to lead the team in rec. yards]. Brandon Aiyuk has a hamstring strain and is considered week-to-week….I’d give him the next best odds.” And “I don’t think there’s any question that Raheem Mostert will lead the team in rushing yards if he stays healthy. I’d say there’s a better chance of Mostert having double the yards as the next rusher than another back having more yards than Raheem, save an injury.”
· Chris Carson is back at practice today.
