- Russell Gage: Gage is in line to be the Falcons’ top slot man and is having a strong camp. “He’s somebody we’re going to certainly count on in a lot of scenarios this season,” WR coach Dave Brock said. “He’s got a ton of potential, and I don’t even think he’s come close to reaching it yet.” Over the final eight games of the 2019 season, Gage drew at least six targets five times. He posted a career-best eight catches and 76 yards in a home loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
- Marlon Mack: It would be an upset if Mack doesn’t start for the Colts come Week 1. He had his best performance of camp yesterday during the Colts’ scrimmage. “Jonathan Taylor has made more headlines than veteran Marlon Mack during this camp. But Monday belonged to the returning starter. Mack turned in a dazzling performance behind a late-starting offensive line who began to assert itself after the halftime break.”
- Van Jefferson: The drumbeat continues… ” Josh Reynolds is the biggest hurdle standing in Jefferson’s way… Both players will contribute (this) season, but how each one performs will determine how much they play. (Van) has made plays consistently throughout camp and if he keeps that up, it’ll be hard to keep him off the field.” Jefferson is learning all the WR roles and earning the trust of his teammates.
- Chase Claypool: Has been impressive in the Red Zone. Keith Butler on Claypool, “when I first saw him, I thought he had a brick hands for a moment. But I’ve been impressed with him as of late. … he’s shown up last week or so.” You can find Ben Roethlisberger routinely going over routes with Claypool between plays.
- Denzel Mims: Still out with a hamstring. Sam Darnold said Mims has been doing everything he can to be prepared in the film room. Still a bummer that he hasn’t been able to practice. Chris Hogan, recently signed, got a ton of first team reps today and made the most of them.
- 49ers Pass Catchers: George Kittle (14) has caught the most passes from Jimmy Garoppolo in camp, followed by Brandon Aiyuk (12), Kendrick Bourne (11), and Trent Taylor (11). Raheem Mostert has easily lead the way for the RBs with 7 catches from JG.
- Logan Thomas: Continues to show good chemistry with Dwayne Haskins, who loves throwing to Thomas in the Red Zone. He has caught 4 TDs from Haskins in the past 3 days.
- Jerry Jeudy: Jeudy had a rough start to practice with 2 drops, then absolutely turned it on. Great sign from the rookie that he was able to shake the early drops.
- Ronald Jones: Ronald Jones had a solid day with the help of a few nice holes that sprung him for some splash runs. In a live period Jones took a handoff on third and short and took it to the house a good 40 yards outrunning the defense into the endzone.
- Cam Sims: The majority of the talk in Redskins camp has been about the other ‘Sims’ (Steven), but Cam had a really impressive day today. He’s been doing some good things in camp the past few days.
- Tyrell Williams/Bryan Edwards: With Tyrell Williams injured shoulder, Bryan Edwards should get increased first team reps as the Raiders are careful with Williams. It’d be a surprise, but Edwards could show enough that he outright earns the starting role.
- Ceedee Lamb: Another couple highlight catches. It’s becoming the norm for him. Had 3 TDs today.
- Le’Veon Bell: Had his best practice of camp today. The Jets offense as a whole looked better today, particularly Bell, Darnold, and Jamison Crowder.
- John Hightower: Back at practice today after missing two days.
- N’Keal Harry: Harry has now strung together back to back strong practices. The Patriots desperately need him to live up to his draft status.
- Dak Prescott: It’s very obvious Dak loves attacking downfield with his tight ends. He went downfield 4 times to 3 different TEs today. One of which was an absolute rope to Blake Jarwin, splitting the safeties in the process.
- Joe Reed: “Anthony Lynn has mentioned using Reed out of the backfield, but he mainly played WR for the first week of camp. One of Reed’s many roles is to be the deep threat the team has coveted for the past year. For his day at RB, Reed saw snaps with Tyrod Taylor and was impressive in the new role.” Reed has practiced with the RBs for the past two days.
- Cam Akers/Malcolm Brown: Brown will start the season as the Rams RB1, but many in the Rams media believe Akers will take over by week 4 or 5.
- Jaleel Scott: Jaleel Scott, who’s fighting for a roster spot, had a pretty rough day. He dropped some catchable passes in team drills and flung his helmet in frustration after one play. He then got injured on a TD catch and was on the ground for a few minutes before walking off w/ trainers.
- Gabriel Davis: “It seems like we’re writing Davis’ name in our notebook every day after he makes another splashy play….No matter who the quarterback is throwing to him or the cornerback is covering him, Davis has been a threat to make a play.”
- Melvin Gordon: Back at practice.
- Mike Davis: “(Mike Davis) seems to be the front-runner to claim the backup role behind Christian McCaffrey. Davis told The Athletic last week it was “refreshing” to get a clean slate with a new coaching staff, which has seen him emerge as a dual-threat, No. 2 back.”
- Braxton Berrios: Berrios is having a quietly strong camp for the Jets, who are hurting at WR. “He’s a competitor, man. He plays like he’s 6-4, 230. He gets after it every day” – Adam Gase.
- Devin Asiasi: Received medical attention on his ankle/foot and spent most of the practice sidelined. Monitoring this situation
- Stefon Diggs: Diggs had by far his busiest day of camp. He had lots of targets and lots of catches. On one series Diggs was targeted 4 times in a row, after a run of 3 straight targets on an earlier series. All 7 resulted in completions.
- Kahale Warring: Had 2 TDs today, which impressed Bill O’Brien.
- Breshad Perriman: Expected to return on Saturday.
- Browns Offense: Has been mostly struggling in camp.
- Jake Butt: Continues to look good. He has an uphill battle to make the Broncos roster, but should latch on somewhere else if he doesn’t make the final cut.
- AJ Dillon: Dropped a pass today, which is something he can’t do.
- Mike Williams: Expected to miss 2-4 weeks with his shoulder injury. He’s iffy for Week 1. Jaylen Guyton, Darius Jennings, Jason Moore and Tyron Johnson all worked with the first-team offense in Williams’ absence.
- Robert Woods: Had an outstanding practice today. We don’t usually hear much about established veterans, which tells you all you need to know about the day Woods had. Made several nice catches and was heavily involved.
- AJ Green: Should be back to practice tomorrow.
- Jonnu Smith: It’s clear that Ryan Tannehill and Jonnu Smith have a connection.
- Anthony Miller: Was back in team drills today and was very noticeable. He should be a big part of the Bears offense if he can stay healthy.
- Jordan Reed: Worked sparingly in team drills and looked good in one-on-ones.
- Justin Watson: Lost in the Scotty Miller hype, Watson had his best practice today. He caught more balls from Brady in team periods than anyone today & it wasn’t close. Godwin had the day off again, that maybe played a part in his reps, but he caught every ball thrown his way including TD in live goal line
