- Matt Ryan is excited to have Hayden Hurst, saying “I’m probably most excited about his athleticism. He’s extremely fast, very good change of direction. He’s big and strong. He’s everything you would want in a tight end. So I think he’s going to be a nice piece of the puzzle for us.” Hurst should have a big role in the Falcons offense.
- Dez Bryant worked out for the Ravens, but no decision on signing him is imminent.
- Cole Kmet isn’t performing like a rookie. He’s ahead of schedule according to the Bears TE coach. “Not to make it sound too grand, but I have zero concerns about Cole Kmet. I really do.”
- Ron Rivera on Bryce Love: “He’s a guy that’s multi-dimensional. At Stanford, he didn’t have to do a lot of routes and pass catching, but he’s very capable and we’re getting to see that. This is a guy that could be an every-down back for you. He’s an explosive, dynamic player.” Love sat out practice today.
- Bruce Arians on LeSean McCoy: “I think he looks fantastic. You know, when you look at his tape from last September, October, he was still Shady…He made a couple of great moves today, especially on a route 1-on-1 versus a linebacker. So yeah, he looks good. We just got to make sure we keep him fresh.”
- Ronald Jones has also been extensively praised by Arians. Tom Brady said Dare Ogunbowale “plays a big role in the offense”. Ke’Shawn Vaughn is also in the mix. It’ll be interesting to see how this group shakes out.
- Dan Quinn says the team’s faith in Russell Gage to develop as a slot receiver allowed them to make the Mohamed Sanu trade.
- Jeff Thomas was back at Patriots practice.
- A slimmed up D’Onta Foreman had a strong workout for the Titans.
- Tyler Johnson is back practicing for the Bucs and had a strong practice today. He’s still squarely behind Evans, Godwin, Miller, and Watson.
- OJ Howard has quietly had a good camp and he’s playing with more confidence.
- Jalen Reagor isn’t the only Eagles rookie WR that is standing out. Fifth round pick John Hightower has had a solid camp and a particularly good day today.
- Antonio Gandy-Golden has been praised for his strong blocking skills. He put in an equally strong receiving performance today.
- Terry McLaurin is still good and having a great camp. Keep an eye on Steven Sims. Washington loves him and he’ll get every opportunity to make plays once the season starts. He had two runs today that stood out — one a reverse, the other a jet sweep — in an 11v11 session. Both resulted in positive yardage and showed off Sims’s speed.
- Antonio Gibson had his strongest practice today, especially on outside runs.
- Watch out for Gunner Olszewski, Patriots WR. He’s been impressive and greatly improved. He’s more explosive and improved his route running.
- Jarrett Stidham has had a bad week, throwing a total of 7 ints in the last 3 practices.
- Cam Newton had the best day of any QB. Didn’t have any standout moments and is clearly still adjusting, but fewer mistakes and was more accurate than Stidham or Hoyer. Also got to show off his mobility a bit.
- AJ Green sat out again today.
- Have a day DJ Chark! He continues to be the best player at Jags camp.
- Laviska Shenault also showed strong hands today.
- Chris Herndon is getting tons of targets. He’ll be a big part of the offense if he stays healthy.
- “We have a quarterback rotation and we try to put different people in with those quarterbacks….We have a quarterback rotation and we mix a lot of different people in with those quarterbacks,” Dolphins OC Chan Gailey on QB carousel
- Devante Adams sat out practice today, but he was seen throwing passes to receivers as they ran routes. He should be fine.
- “There are guys who can make plays do what they’re supposed to….He has vision and can find holes,” Eric Studesville on Jordan Howard. Very telling comment. Hints he’ll be the early downs back.
- Julian Edelman is certainly dealing with something early in camp. Was limited Tuesday and then after an incompletion from Newton in 4vs3 drills early in practice he threw his helmet and then went to trainer. Took one rep rest of practice and spent most of it on one knee.
- Le’Veon Bell, down to 210 lbs, is “probably in the best shape of anyone on this team,” Gase said. “He can run all day. Right now, he’s in phenomenal shape.”
- Sterling Shepard has seamlessly transitioned to Jason Garrett’s system.
- Jets WR coach Shawn Jefferson says that Jamison Crowder should catch 90-plus balls this year.
- Jerry Jeudy continues to dominate. Looks like a seasoned vet.
- Lock still loves throwing to Sutton and Sutton has been on fire during camp.
- KJ Hamler tweaked a hamstring and will be out a couple weeks.
- Joe Burrow went 5/5 in the second portion of 11-on-11. He spread the ball around to Tyler Boyd, Auden Tate and Mike Thomas. AJG and John Ross are still sitting out.
- Tyreek Hill left Chiefs practice about midway through today with a hamstring injury. Walked off on his own. He had just caught a long touchdown pass in a 1 on 1 drill when he pulled up. Sammy Watkins hasn’t practiced in several days because of a groin injury.
- Jordan Akins caught two touchdown passes today for the Texans.
- Marquez Valdez-Scantling has had some ups and downs in camp. Today is an up. MVS made a diving catch earlier when Aaron Rodgers led him too much, and just made a nice catch on a crosser. Easy to see MVS’s talent on a day like this.
- Saints RB coach Joel Thomas on Ty Montgomery: “I see him as this piece of putty that hasn’t had a lot of experience, even though he’s listed as a RB. He’s been moved around from room to room as far as WR, RB, maybe more of a scat role.”
- Nick Chubb has been in meetings and is doing well.
- Evan Engram has looked good/healthy.
- Jonnu Smith is drawing rave reviews. There’s a pretty easy scenario to see him as the Titans 2nd option in the passing game. That said, Corey Davis also looks good. CD’s talent has never been the issue though.
- Jaguars rookie WR Collin Johnson had a great day today
- OBJ is back at practice today after leaving early yesterday
- Good practices from Kendrick Bourne and Ross Dwelley. Bourne had a couple TDs in a red zone drill from C.J. Beathard. Dwelley made a nice diving grab from Jimmy Garoppolo for a score.
- Rookie TE Devin Asiasi can win at the point of attack in the run game against veteran defenders that know what they’re doing. That’s huge…as huge as any pass catching interest in his game. Will help him earn reps, be a full-time player. He is also impressing as a pass catcher.
- Pete Carroll says Phillip Dorsett brings speed that he thinks is the fastest they’ve seen since he’s been in Seattle. He said they’ll be introducing some elements in the playbook that’ll accentuate Dorsett’s skill set.
- Joshua Kelley got some run with the first team today and had another long run.
- Kyle Shanahan has complimented Dante Pettis’ “aggression”, which is a complete 180 from this time last year.
