7/31/2019 Training Camp Observations

July 10, 2023

Ravens –  Marquise “Hollywood” Brown practiced for the first time in a limited capacity.  Marlon Humphrey was told by the Ravens’ GPS tracking person that Brown ran 21mph in REHAB running. Humphrey said he ran 20mph full-speed healthy.  Jordan Lasley, the fifth round pick from a year ago, was released.

Bills – Not a great day for Josh Allen, but the Bills O line got dominated. LeSean McCoy missed practice for personal reasons, leading to more first team work for Devin Singletary. Two lesser known WRs to watch: Duke Williams and David Sills.

Browns – Baker Mayfield had a fantastic day. He’s developing some nice chemistry with Rashard Higgins. Higgins is setting himself up for a career year.  “Nick Chubb is a gem of a feature back, too valuable to be relegated to second-class status in an all-out Air Raid offense. There are enough advocates in the organization to keep Chubb at the forefront of the offensive thinking – and not as an afterthought.” Dontrell Hilliard had a good day.

Packers –  Aaron Jones sat out today hamstring tightness. LeFleur says the Packers were just being cautious.  First pass call in team session was an attempt to get MVS deep but the secondary was all over it.  Later, in 2 minute drills, Rodgers hit MVS for a 33 yard TD.  Dexter Williams got first team reps with Jones and Williams out, handled blitz pickups well. Good day for Jimmy Graham, had a couple catches from Rodgers. Geronimo Allison had a fantastic jump ball catch

Colts –  Daurice Fountain had his best practice, making a few nice catches. Krishawn Hogan has been terrific the last two days, climbing into that WR conversation. One beat writer is still really high on Mo Alie-Cox heading into this year stating “he’s a different football player.”

Dolphins – Josh Rosen had a good day and Ryan Fitzpatrick had his worst day. Preston Williams had a couple good catches from Rosen. Durham Smythe with a nice catch. He’s been as or more productive than Mike Gesicki in practices. Nick O’Leary has been most productive TE in camp so far.

Patriots – N’Keal Harry was all over the map today. He had 4 (!) drops in team sessions, but also had a couple highlight catches. The good news is that he’s getting open. Tom Brady was 7-17 in team drills, but wasn’t helped by 3 drops from Harry.

Jets – Sam Darnold was on fire today. Probably his best practice. Jamison Crowder stood out again. Quincy Enunwa also had a nice day. He had struggled with drops when camp opened.

Steelers –  Most receptions of 15+ yards through the first four days of camp:

                                – JuJu Smith-Schuster: 5

                                – Donte Moncrief: 3

                                – James Washington: 3

                                – Diontae Spencer: 2

Some other camp stats: Benny Snell has 14 carries for 73 yards and Donte Moncrief has 13 catches for 125 yards and 2 TDs. James Conner is taking it easy.

Redskins – Josh Doctson shouldn’t be a forgotten man. He’s had a great camp. The WR battle between Doctson, Terry McLaurin, Cam Sims, Kelvin Harmon, and Paul Richardson is a fun one. Trey Quinn has the slot locked up.
