7/29/2019 Training Camp Observations

July 10, 2023

Saints – Emmanuel Butler, the UDFA WR from Northern Arizona, has been stealing the show since the start of camp. The depth chart behind Michael Thomas, who is a no show thus far, is fairly open.

Seahawks – DK Metcalf made several nice plays today, probably his best practice so far.He had 3 TDs in the 7v7s and almost had a 4th, but was called out of bounds. Russell Wilson has been dicing up the Seattle secondary.  No one has been able to guard Tyler Lockett in 1v1s.

Eagles – Jordan Howard is getting the most first team work at RB by far.  “The way Miles Sanders accelerates through the line is just different from the other RBs “. Carson Wentz had his best day. DeSean Jackson has found the fountain of youth being back in Philly. Wentz -> DJax has been nearly unstoppable.

Falcons – Calvin Ridley was back at practice after sitting out the last couple days with a hamstring injury. Matt Ryan talked up Austin Hooper.  Dan Quinn says that right now he thinks there will be more of a committee approach behind Devonta Freeman instead of a 2A emerging a la Tevin Coleman.

Jets – Jamison Crowder once again was having a good practice before injuring his foot. He’s scheduled to get an MRI. Sam Darnold did a nice job spreading the ball around today. Deontay Burnett had a good day as he tries to make the roster as the WR5 or 6.

Broncos – Released their first depth chart. QB: Flacco, Hogan, Lock, Rypien.  RB: Lindsay, Freeman, Booker. WR: Sanders/Sutton, Hamilton/Patrick, Winfree/Brown, McKnight/Benson  TE: Heuerman, Fant, Fumagalli, Butt.

Chiefs – Patrick Mahomes was dropping bombs today. Mecole Hardman probably had his best day, leaving defenders in the dust. Carlos Hyde was the first team RB with Damien Williams nursing a hamstring.

Ravens –  Lamar Jackson’s string of three strong practices ended Monday. He was intercepted twice and had three passes tipped. Still, it was Jackson’s first interception thrown since the first day of camp. Another strong practice by Mark Andrews.

Steelers – Diontae Spencer has been making downfield plays all camp.

Raiders – Marcel Ateman and Darren Waller had nice days today. Waller is stacking good practices. Doug Martin has looked solid as well, running with pace and energy.

49ers – Trent Taylor has been the most targeted wideout. The receivers and Garoppollo had a good day today after a so-so day yesterday.
